About us
Our story
De Tijd has been a familiar face in the centre of Dordrecht since 1988. It started as a pub for people who love good beer. Over the years it has become a place where craft beer, good company and a personal welcome come together.
We are on the Voorstraat, in a listed building from 1603 that has been part of the street for generations. Before De Tijd it was Café Stadt Dordrecht; since we opened in 1988 the building has had a new chapter as a beer pub. Regulars still sit here next to people who walk in for the first time, all with the same plan: a good glass of beer in a relaxed setting.
In the early years we focused on Belgian classics and Trappist beers. The beer world changed, and so did we. Besides the Belgian classics we now pour modern IPAs, strong stouts, tart sours, gueuze, alcohol-free beers and unusual brews from small Dutch and international breweries. One thing has never changed: we only pour beers we are excited about ourselves.
Our mission
We believe good beer is there to be enjoyed. That is why we want everyone to feel welcome, from the person ordering their first craft beer to the one who has been collecting labels for years. We're happy to help you find something that suits your taste. Sometimes that is a familiar tripel, sometimes a surprising gueuze or a stout you never thought you would like. Knowing about beer is a nice extra, but in the end it's about what you simply enjoy. That counts at least as much.
Some traditions are worth keeping.
More than a beer pub
Beer comes first, of course, but the atmosphere matters just as much to us. De Tijd is a place where people meet to catch up, pull a board game out of the cupboard, celebrate a birthday or just sit quietly at the bar.
Our collection of board games has grown a lot over the years and we still add to it regularly. There is almost always something new to try, even when you don't feel like talking about beer all night.
Bar team
We usually know what is on tap, but we can't know in advance what you like. So tell us what you normally drink. Fresh, bitter, dark, sour, strong or something completely different: we'll take it from there.
Kitchen and collaborations
For our pizza we work with Piacere Italiano. Our snacks are chosen to go well with an evening at the bar, too.
Events
A DJ, tap takeovers and tastings: there is regularly something going on. For group enquiries, get in touch.
What we pour
On tap you'll find fourteen rotating beers. We also have a big bottle and can list with more than 170 craft beers from the Netherlands and abroad. From classic abbey beers and authentic Trappists to modern IPAs, fruity sours, rich imperial stouts and spontaneously fermented beers from the Zenne valley.
Our beer list never really stands still. New brews arrive, seasonal beers make way for the next batch and special bottles sometimes disappear as fast as they came in. That is why both our menu and our Untappd page are updated every day, so you can always see what is available right now.
Tastings
A tasting is a good excuse to put four beers side by side. We tell you what is in your glass, where it comes from and why it tastes the way it does. The rest is up to you.
Coming with colleagues, friends or family? We'll gladly think along about a tasting that suits your group. See the beer tastings page for more.
Collaborations
For pizza and a range of snacks we deliberately pick partners from the region. That keeps the lines short and lets us keep the quality up to the level of the beers we pour.
Behind the scenes we also try to make sustainable choices where we can, for example by buying locally and taking a critical look at packaging and waste.
Frequently asked questions
De Tijd started in 1988 as a small local pub with a passion for craft beer, and has since become well known in Dordrecht.
Yes, we regularly run guided tastings and specials. See the beer tastings page for what is on offer now.

Fourteen rotating taps, a big bottle list and a warm, relaxed atmosphere.
Why De Tijd?
De Tijd is not a pub that happens to pour craft beer. Beer has been at the centre here since 1988.
Fourteen rotating taps, more than 170 bottled and canned beers and a team that is happy to help you find something new. The rest, pizza, board games, coffee, the terrace and events, are mostly good reasons to stay a bit longer.
